John George

"The John George wines are an indulgence of my passion" β€” Andy

These well-aged, mature red wines possess a smoothness and elegance that we just don’t see anymore, except on the rare occasion when you find something in the back of someone's cellar. Against the trend of producing wines that age faster to reach the market sooner, we have set out to create wines that will age.

We have then put them to bed in our temperature-controlled storage facility and are now making them available to the market as beautifully refined and elegant wines.

Single vineyard: Brushwood Brook

I first recognised the potential of this block in 1999. At this stage the vineyard was 1 year old, with a long road to great wine in front of it. The soil in the vineyard is what underpins the vine's ability to produce excellence. It has a deep soil of consistent chunky angular gravel, that has a mixture of coarse quartz sand, loam and clay between the gravel. The vineyard sits on the top of the Ridge, so along with the soil allowing free drainage, yet retaining good spring moisture, it is exposed to the cooling breezes both from Geographe Bay to the northeast, and the Indian Ocean to the west.
